Why Families Call Us

Keeping a Parent Safe at Home

Most calls we get for this work start the same way. A parent had a fall, or a close call, and the family realizes the home isn't set up for how they move now. It's a hard moment, and you want it handled by someone you trust.

Here is the reassuring part. Most falls at home happen in a few predictable places: the bathroom, the stairs, the doorways, and the floor transitions. Those are exactly the places we can make meaningfully safer, usually in a single visit, so a parent can keep living in the home they want to stay in.

How It Works

We Walk the Home With You

You don't have to know exactly what is needed. We come out, walk the home room by room with you, and give you a straight answer on what reduces risk and what doesn't. Some homes need three things. Some need a dozen.

We tell you what we would do if it were our own parent, put every recommendation in writing, and you decide. A clear written quote before any work begins. No pressure, and nothing gets installed that a home doesn't need.

Room by Room

What We Make Safer

The safety changes you're likely weighing right now, the ones asked for most across Montgomery County. Each is installed correctly and fitted to the person who lives there.

Grab Bars & Bathroom Safety

Grab bars anchored into studs or solid blocking at the tub, shower, and toilet. Comfort-height toilets and anti-slip surfaces where footing matters most.

Handrails & Stairs

Handrails secured to the wall at the correct height, on interior and exterior runs. Threshold reducers and transition strips to take out the trip points.

Anti-Slip & Footing

Non-slip treatment in the bathroom and on stairs, so wet tile and worn treads stop being the most dangerous spots in the house.

Lighting & Handles

Brighter light in hallways, stairwells, and bathrooms, and lever handles that replace round knobs for hands that don't grip the way they used to.

The Part That Matters Most

Anchored Into Solid Structure

A grab bar is only as good as what it's bolted to. A bar anchored into drywall will pull out under load, at the exact moment someone needs it to hold. That's not a safety modification. That's a hazard with a chrome finish.

We locate the studs behind the tile before we drill. Where the studs aren't where the bar needs to go, we open the wall and install solid blocking first, then anchor the bar into wood. The bar holds full body weight. We tell you what each install requires before we start, so nothing is a surprise.

Can Maryland Help Pay for Senior Home Modifications?

In many cases, yes. Maryland runs two programs built for exactly this kind of work, and most families we talk to have never heard of either one.

Accessible Homes for Seniors is a state program that helps Maryland homeowners age 55 and older pay for accessibility improvements such as grab bars, railings, ramps, wider doorways, and accessible showers. The state offers the help as zero-interest loans, and as grants for homeowners who qualify. Eligibility and funding are set by the state, and applications go through your county housing office.

The Independent Living Tax Credit is a Maryland income tax credit that gives residents back a portion of what they spend making a home more accessible, whether it's your own home or a family member's. The state decides the credit and the eligibility, and you claim it when you file your Maryland taxes.

One thing worth knowing: the state application asks for invoices and before-and-after photos of the work. That's the paperwork we already produce on every job, so if you use either program, the documentation you need is simply part of how we work.

Yes. If an occupational therapist, discharge planner, or family member has given you a list, bring it to us. We install to those recommendations and tell you if anything needs a closer look on site.
Grab bars pull out of the wall when they were anchored to drywall instead of studs. We locate studs and install grab bars anchored into wood framing. Where studs aren't in the right position, we install solid blocking inside the wall first. The bar will hold under full body weight.
We handle interior safety modifications: grab bars, handrails, lever handles, lighting improvements, and threshold reduction. Ramp construction is a larger structural project that requires evaluation of the specific entry.
Yes. All three are within the regular service area. Property Renovators Home Services covers all of Montgomery County, MD.
We install comfort-height toilets as a standard toilet replacement. We also install raised toilet seat risers. Both options improve safety for seniors and those with mobility limitations.
Yes. We install handrails on interior stair runs, including securing the rail to the wall at the correct mounting height.
