Washington Grove began in 1873 as a Methodist camp meeting, and the cottages that replaced the tents were built on the tent footprints, many of them keeping a core about fourteen feet across and thirty feet deep to this day. Nearly the whole town is a National Register historic district.
None of that is decoration when you are working on one. The framing is not modern, the openings were cut at different times by different hands, and the avenues in front of the cottages are gravel walkways closed to cars.
